Spiritual Accounting
Introduction

Adapted by Rabbi Chaim Faecher from
Sefer Chesbon Hanefesh

9. Obtain a small notebook of at least seventeen pages for your daily accounting. (We have prepared one for you at the end of the book, containing all the charts described in paragraphs nine through eleven.) The first thirteen pages are for the weekly charts. The attribute of the week together with its corresponding statement (see paragraph six above) is written at the top of the page which corresponds to the week you are to focus on them. For example, if "Reflect" is the third keyword in your list, it is written at the top of page three together with its corresponding statement. Notice that each chart consists of thirteen horizontal rows and seven vertical columns (see Fig. 1 below). The rows are for your characteristics, while the columns are for the days of the week. Thus, on the left-hand side of the page, the keywords have been written in order, one below the other, with the days of the week above the seven columns.

Figure 1 - Sample weekly chart (week 3).

10. The next four pages of your notebook are quarterly charts. Therefore, the fourteenth page, the first of these, is used for recording your progress in the first quarter of the year. On each page there is a chart of fourteen vertical columns and thirteen horizontal rows (see Figure 2 below). Again, each row is for the thirteen characteristics, while each column records weekly results. The fourteenth column is for the associated quarterly totals.
